Best Price Movers vs. the CRTC

There's very little on the CRTC's website to brighten any bureaucracy-hating Canadian's day, but the telemarketing regulations have my wholehearted support. An excerpt:

ADADs are equipment that store and dial telephone numbers automatically. They may be used alone or with other equipment to deliver a prerecorded or synthesized voice message to the telephone number called.

ADADs are permitted when there is no attempt to sell, such as:
•calls made for public service reasons, including emergency and administrative purposes by police and fire departments, schools, hospitals, or similar organizations,
• calls to collect overdue accounts, market or survey research calls or calls to schedule appointments.

ADADs used for the purpose of solicitation are prohibited, including calls made on behalf of a charity, radio station promotions, or calls referring the called party to a 900/976 service number.

So when exactly was that regulation repealed? I only ask because of the 30-or-so calls I've had in the past six months or so from Boris and Janus asking, in stilted, pre-recorded English, if I have movingk maybe and to be needingk men vith truck. It's annoying. It appears to be illegal. It'd be just super if it stopped.

(My personal favourites — though this hasn't happened in a while — are the ones that show up on your Call Answer without the phone ringing. Thanks for everything, Bell.)

Hey, dicko, if you want to find him, why don't you call the number he left you?

Posted by: RedWolf at August 25, 2005 01:46 AM

RedWolf, go ahead and try phoning the number at the end of the recording you'll find at this post:

http://toronto.metblogs.com/archives/2005/08/harrassment_by.phtml.

Chances are that he's already tried phoning and that he's already tried to be removed from the mailing list.

So I can understand why he wants to gut Boris - and let's not forget the other guy, Yanush. I'm sure you could grasp that, dicko.

My favourite line in their telephone is:

"Just give us two keys and we'll take care of everything"

Might as well call themselves B&E Movers.

I did try to call the number to have my phone number removed but the system was not recognizing the numbers I keyed. It did make me very nervous that I had to keep trying to key in my home phone number again & again. Now I have to call Bell and see if they can restrict any unusual long distance charges on my phone.

I actually got through to a live human today and asked the landed immigrant who answered to remove my phone number. He could not, he didn't have a pen or a pencil.

I asked them for their business address, he said he doesn't know where he works but he tried to give me directions, they went as follows:

"Finch subway, get on the 3rd platform and ride the bus for 10 minutes."

Then I asked him how I could book a truck if I did want to use their services to move. He said he didn't know, it is a "very difficult process"

So, in a nut shell, it's harrassment with no view to a service.

The CRTC should be able to do something about these guys, there must be some wierd (and probably illegal) purpose to their deeds.

At first the phone call from 'Boris' was hilarious, now it's down right harrassment. Whatever illegal services they are providing, I want no part of it. Someone go over there and give it to them!
Here's their address.

Forget Boris. Forger Yanush. We now have Fred. Best price movers is the most annoying telemarketing spam every unsolicited. Pure madness that these bozos still have a license to operate and a phone from which to dial from.

Best Price Movers have littered my inbox for years now. Tried putting myself on the Do Not Call list they have, that did not work. Called them and told them to stop robo dialing en masse (even hit my cell phone) - that did not work. It only caused them to verbaly assault me.

Avoid Best Price Movers like the plague is my advice.

Further to this, I was wondering how many others are reciving a telemarketing spamming of a pre-recorded message saying you have an opportunity to win a stay at a resort in Collingwood? I am not amused. This has been going on steady with me for months, if not years even. I wish these telemarketers (especially those blocking their numbers) would just stop!
