Albert Alligator vs. Fluffy Bunny: Annihilation
Man, what a gyp — I visited this place any number of times as a kid and I sure never saw anything as exciting as this:
A youth who snatched a white rabbit at a zoo and threw it into the alligator pool is being sought by police.
Customers at the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay were horrified to see the tame animal still alive in the reptile's jaws before it was killed.

Staff detained one youth and handed him over to police, but two more got away.
No doubt an APB is out on two young Welshmen wearing hoodies, but I'd love to know what they're going to charge these guys with. Destruction of property, perhaps — I note that the Welsh rabbit didn't have a name, unlike Albert the alligator — but cruelty to animals would certainly be a bit of a laugh. Zoo director Chris Jackson says: "We're disgusted, speechless and shocked. If you spend your life working with and looking after animals, this is something you cannot conceive." And yet, BBC News tells us:
In the wild, alligators feed on a variety of small animals including fish, birds and mammals.
In the zoo, Albert and [fellow alligator] Nancy feed on fish and meat, usually herring and beef.
Can I assume the herring die of old age, then, and that the cows are softly euthanized while kindly zookeepers sing them to their final sleep? I won't even bother to compare Jackson's outrage to my own misgivings about keeping an alligator locked up in a pool in North Wales for 20 years. For better (but more painful) entertainment options in the Colwyn Bay/Llandudno/Rhos-on-Sea tri-city area, I'd heartily recommend the dry ski slope and outrageously dangerous slide rides.
