Vendetta Night in Canada

Considering Chris Zelkovich gets paid to watch television, he really isn't very good at it:

On Friday night, after the Leafs game in Atlanta degenerated into Slap Shot III, Harry Neale of all people found it necessary to put in a good word for brawling.

With Darcy Tucker's blood still oozing into the ice, Neale told viewers, "There's nobody sitting in this arena."

Outside of the fact it wasn't true, it was yet another example of how many hockey people seem compelled to defend violence. The fans love it, so it's good for the game, right?

They probably used to use that logic in defending the right to public hangings.

But of course, Tucker wasn't cut in a fight. He was cut when Andy Sutton slammed his face into the end glass, an act appreciated so much by the violence-addicted NHL that it suspended Sutton for four games.

"They probably used to use that logic in defending the right to public hangings." Yeah, that's the ticket.

Because we all know NHL'ers have no option when it comes to if, when, where, who, or how they fight. And really, there's no difference between public hangings and hockey fights, is there?
