Interesting choice of words

Good on the French and German papers who reprinted the Danish "anti-Muslim" editorial cartoons. The cartoons are deliberately insulting and I don't think they have anything particularly insightful to say, but the reactions to them have certainly been revealing. To wit:

Dalil Boubakeur, president of the French Muslim council, told the AFP newswire: “This is appalling, we disapprove totally, it is a real provocation for the millions of Muslims in France.”

When the president of the French Muslim council pronounces that a cartoon is a provocation, i.e., an incitement to some sort of response that goes beyond reasoned, intellectual self-defense, then I'd say that these cartoons have exposed a real faultline in European society. One isn't generally "provoked" to write angry letters to the editor, after all.

Just so we don't get the idea that it is only those creepy muslims who dislike cartoons and write letters to the editor:

ted - and your point would be? So far, it is only those fascist generals who write letters to the editor. Adherents of the Religion of Peace™ seem content to burn cars and buildings. I score that as round one to the fascists, which I think was Chris' point - how about you?

Interesting. Care to reprint this one on your blog? You know, just to see what reaction it gets.

"You know, just to see what reaction it gets...."

That's the point, isn't it, Robbo? It may get a couple of angry comments, or a few people who swear that the blog author is evil, or who shun and avoid him forever. The reaction will not include burning cars, attacks on an embassy, or death threats.

Glad to see you have 'stepped up to the plate' by attacking a group committed to non-violent response; you are really 'challenging the dominant paradigm' here, sticking it to 'The Man.' By the way, aren't Jews your traditional target? Nice to see that you are an equal opportunity waste of neurons.
