Why now?
Until today it was safe to say that Steve Moore was winning the PR battle against Todd Bertuzzi, not that there was any reason for him to care. PR can't help his vertebrae and it can't win him any damages. So I suppose it can't really hurt Moore to file his lawsuit against Bertuzzi and the Canucks just now, even though it instantly burns through most of his "broken neck" goodwill. For the life of me, though, I can't see how it helps him either.

Apparently there's a statute of limitations for the civil claim that would run out tomorrow. Not that it really matters - I agree with you, a month ago would have been far better than this week.

I'm still waiting for some indication of why it isn't blatant forum-shopping to file the case in *Ontario*, for something that happened between players in Vancouver and Colorado....

I guess Moore's argument for an Ontario location is that his paraplegia makes travel inconvenient, so it should be held in the closest location to his home that will apply Canadian law. I disagree with the (possibly implied) assertion that he should not have to travel - if he was willing to go to Colorado, then there is no reason why the trial can't be held in Vancouver. No doubt the real reason is that he wants a jury that doesn't see Bertuzzi as a local hero. I don't know - maybe that is a good enough reason in itself.

I wonder if that's why his parents filed for the 1.5 million tack-on.... to justify the Ontario venue, because it's "where they suffered their trauma"?
Regardless, it's such an obvious question I don't understand why the reporters didn't get his lawyer to explain (or state that the lawyer declined to, if so).
As for whether a change of venue might be appropriate: indeed it might, but that would be for the judges in BC to decide, not Moore's lawyer on his own. For Moore's lawyer to pick the venue for the trial based on where he has the highest likelihood of success is the very definition of forum-shopping, no?
