Honestly, I think a lot of this comes down to cyclical talent, player choice and the unfathomable coaching mismatch between Brent Sutter and Sergei Nemchinov. Just as it was during our post-Nagano crisis, which I maintain was one of the most unedifying tantrums this country has ever thrown, this is not the wholesale collapse of Russian hockey that some would have us believe. I expect this humiliation to light one hell of a fire underneath the program, actually. But for now, 7-0-1 is friggin' terrific. And I wouldn't be surprised if Brent Sutter marched out of GM Place and parted Burrard Inlet.
